The 3rd Chinese Australian Social Work Research Center Annual Meeting successfully held

(NEWS from Jianmei Hao)The 3rd Chinese Australian Social Work Research Center (CASWRC) Annual Meeting organized by School of Sociology, Central China Normal University was held on November 7th, 2017, in Model United Nations Center. The Professors and graduate students in the social work from the universities in the United States, Australia, Hong Kong participated in the Annual Meeting to discuss the achievement and new direction of Chinese-foreign social work joint research center. CASWRC is was founded in December 2015 and also the first Chinese-foreign joint research center in Humanities and Social Sciences of CCNU since CCNU began implementing the Internationalization strategy. Professor Darrell Irwin serves as the director of the center.

The 3rd Chinese Australian Social Work Research Center (CASWRC) Annual Meeting featured numerous special events covering a variety of pertinent topics. Professor Darrell Irwin reviewed the accomplishment CASWRC achieved during the past years by increasing   access of faculty and students to resources to connect them to international networks. He proposed that the implication of CASWRC for the social work research in China is to form university partnerships, influence government policy and provide comparative perspective/data which is at the heart of most research. One of the meeting’s highlights how to promote the development of social work research in the future. Prof. Tsui Ming-sum, Dean of School of Social Science, Caritas Institute of Higher Education, Hong Kong addressed the Keynote speech that “Ideas and Ideal for Developing Social Work Education in China. As the first international member of Certified Social Work Managers, USA (CSWM), and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (FHKPCA), Prof. Tsui Ming-sum has played a significant role in developing social work research in Mainland, China since 1987.

Social Sciences Research Director of CCNU Xu Fugang talked about howto expand the research in CCNU is the main topic of. Professor David Shum, Dean of Research, Griffith Health Group, delivered welcome speech on behalf of Griffith University. Associate Prof. Lynne Briggs of Griffith University talked on the partnership and activities of School of Human Services and Social Work (HSV) & the social work articulation program. Daniel J. Curran, Emeritus Professor of Sociology-University of Dayton addressed how to form joint-programs with Chinese universities. Then both the Chinese students and international students raised questions and discussed their concerns about the employment opportunities, research and other key issues with the professors.

Building on the success of the Chinese Australian Social Work Research Center, the 3rd annual meeting indicated the new direction for the cooperation of Chinese-foreign social work research, prospects and challenges in linking more faculties and students to international network.


The School of Sociology historically Won the 8th Place in the Annual Sport Games of CCNU


The 2017 sports game of Central China Normal University was held on Nov 2-4, 2015. The staffs and faculties of School of sociology actively participated in several games including basketball, football, rope skipping, etc. Congratulate on all of the staffs and faculties in the school who historically won the 8th place of the games!
